KEEP IT SIMPLE VIDEO

A workshop for artists & creatives who want to increase their confidence around making engaging, professional videos using their mobile phones and native apps.

What is “keep it simple video” about?

Dream it.

You have an idea - maybe even a vision - of a video you want to produce for your website or social media account. The problem is confidence - or more precisely, the lack of it. Uncertainty about equipment, apps, techniques and principles raises your anxiety and fear levels.

play with it.

The workshop is a bit over 90 minutes long. Though you can go through it completely at one sitting, I recommend you take your time to play with the functions of the tools. Practice making short 15-second video clips, focusing on 1-2 specific techniques and principles at a time.

explore it.

What to do then? The saying goes that “the best camera to use is the one you have with you.” If you have a mobile phone, particularly a smart phone, then you have the answer in your hand.

“Keep It Simple Video” filters out the noise surrounding the video camera and native applications in your mobile phone, reducing them to the core elements of what you need to know to feel comfortable working with them.

Master it.

The workshop is comprised of a number of chapters, easily re-visited for review, ranging about 2 - 6 minutes each. Investing just a few minutes every day or so, you’ll experience greater confidence even within a week.

Beyond the functionality of the camera and apps, you’ll also learn basic cinematic steps that will elevate your video production game. Tips and resources are interspersed to help you streamline your workflow and give you a solid foundation to build upon.

 FAQs

  • ‘Keep It Simple Video’ is aimed at any artist or creative who is excited about all the ideas of videos to post on Instagram or TikTok or Facebook, but who lack the confidence in using the technology they have on hand: their mobile phone camera and the apps it offers. Even then, there are those who aren’t uncomfortable with said technology and understand they might not be using all the tools available to them. This workshop will invigorate your approach to making professional-looking, storytelling videos.

  • A beta is a work in progress, whether it’s a software application or an artists’ workshop. They’re completed, but require peer review as it were: feedback from students using it in real life. This feedback comes in the form of questions or comments that provide insights into where certain information might be missing or refinements made to improve and clarify what’s being demonstrated. It’s similar to when we as artists step away from a painting - through distance or time - to get a fresh perspective about what we have been too close to see. Because this is a beta, the enrollment fee is lower than the final workshop will cost - a way to say thanks to you for participating!

Once you’re enrolled, you’ll have lifetime access to future versions of the workshop at no further cost.

  • The workshop is divided into several categories - laid out in sequential chapters. This will be very useful for returning to review areas you feel weak on. Viewing without pause, you’ll watch the entire workshop is under 2 hours. I suggest you take it more slowly, digest what you’re learning and allow some time to experiment and play with what is new to you. In a few minutes a day, you’ll by readily improving your technical and cinematic skills within the week!

  • The workshop has been developed and implemented using an iPhone X, Photos app, and iMovie - all Apple products. The workshop focus is on principles, techniques and concepts that are universal in application. If you’re using non-Apple apps/phones you may need to ‘translate’ a little between the workshop and your own system.

  • When you click the ‘Enroll Now’ button, you’ll be asked to create an account - with your name and a password. Once you click ‘Create Account’, you’ll be presented with the payment screen, to enter your payment information. This is followed by a membership confirmation page and the link to view your workshop member page.

  • The Login link is located in the navigation links at the top right of the website, titled “Account”. You’ll need the password you created when you enrolled in the workshop.

  • I strive to give you as much information as possible so you can make an informed decision if the workshop is the right fit for you. Despite that, it’s possible you’ll find the workshop is not a fit or an unforeseen event has arisen that precludes taking the workshop.

A great deal of work has gone into these lessons and this policy is set to protect that effort. To that end, a refund will be issued if you’ve completed less than 20% of the course - approximately 18 minutes of workshop.
